Our Unique Wood Pellet Manufacturing Process

Utilizing Our Systems Integration Expertise and Implementing Advanced Technologies

From supply of pulpwood and forest residuals to shipment of the finished pellet, the WoodFuels system represents a proprietary process based on experience with many different vendors and the introduction of specialized process controls designed to lower production costs and ensure the highest quality fuel product.

LOG YARD:  Electronic weighbridge with whole log feedstock inventory control and moisture regulation.

DEBARKER:  Logs are continuously loaded into a debarker to reduce ash content.  Controls to debark with least loss of volume are essential.

CHIPPER:  Integrating the log yard to the debarker to the chipper is a very precise system.

SCREENING:  Whole log white chips are then sized with specialized screens to ensure maximum throughput.

GREEN GRINDER:  This is a proprietary sizing design.  Again, this is a specialized system used only by WoodFuels.

DRYING:  The feedstock requires reduction of moisture content from 45% to 12-15%.  The proprietary drying systems offer lower cost and improve throughput quality.

DRY GRINDER:  Post drying a sizing grinder and buffer storage systems are essential for continuous throughput.

TOPELL REACTOR:  The Topell Torbed Reactor is a standardized 100,000mT process unit (15TPH) supplied by the patent holder.

COOLER:  The torrefied material is cooled and brought to stable condition in advance of the pelletizing process.  This unit is part of the Topell system.

PELLETIZER:  The three pellet mills (each 5TPH) are sourced as a system from one vendor.

STORAGE:  Pelletized fuel is stored in silos or directly loaded into rail cars or barges, depending on location.

TRANSPORT:  100% of all finished pellet product is shipped via rail, barge or ship to customers.
